The Power to win comes from within! (Copy)

The power to win comes from within!”

This is a statement that has influenced me throughout my athletic career and 40+ years of coaching. Individually this statement refers to the confidence and mindset that an individual has developed and earned through intellectual and physically challenging themselves to be the best that they can be.  Nobody can give you confidence, it must be earned. Personal habits of making the right choices concerning nutrition, sleep, workouts, recovery, education and living clean increase confidence and give you the opportunity to compete at a high level.

Concerning team play, this statement refers to the power of culture. When the team members decide what it is they want to accomplish together, it is altogether different than the coaches informing them about what they want to accomplish. Once the team decides their vision, mission, values, and goals, it is up to the coach(s) to help them achieve.  I have seen this work firsthand. The development of this type of culture is difficult because it requires leadership, faith, integrity, trust, accountability, and vision. When this type of culture is established, the players become the culture keepers by holding their teammates accountable and responsible for their behavior on and off the field of play. It makes coaching more effective, enjoyable, and impactful.  Consider teams that have a strong tradition of winning that have legacy of constantly being on top. What do they do that is so different? That is a difficult question to answer. The answer is that they do most things differently, they think, act, prepare, teach, and treat others differently. It all comes down to creating a culture that is molded by leadership and expectations from within your team. The coach molds the leaders by encouraging and mentoring them while holding them accountable and being a constant role model, and source of wisdom, love, and patience.
